Artist's Toolkit with Lauren Bryden

Artist's Toolkit with Lauren Bryden

Welcome to the Artist’s toolkit.

A place for practical tips to inspire your creative journey.

Each month i will ask one of the artists teaching a class to share a few tips on how they paint/draw or make.

This month i asked Glasgow based artist, Lauren Bryden to reveal some of her oil pastel secrets...

1. My favourite paper to use is arches aquarelle, it’s a beautiful cotton watercolour paper and I use it sometimes in printmaking too.

2. My favourite oil pastels to use are Sennelier. I lost a sennelier oil pastel once while drawing outdoors, I retraced my steps to find a crow eating it which I feel must be a testament surely to their high quality!

3. I like to layer a lot of colours when I’m working with oil pastels to try and achieve softer, less bold shades.

4. White is my most used colour with oil pastels, and I really like it when the pastel gets ‘dirty’ and picks up other colours making colourful streaks across the page.
