Artist's Toolkit with Maureen Nathan

Artist's Toolkit with Maureen Nathan

This month’s Artist’s toolkit is with London based artist, Maureen Nathan.

I’m very excited for Maureen’s class, ‘tetrapak printing’ on the 14th October.

Here she shares some of her creative tips….

I. Whether printmaking, drawing or painting, choose subject matter that has personal meaning for you. Emotion has a large part to play in the making of art.

2. We all have plenty of art materials but less can be more. Only using one or two materials challenges you to make the most of them - you'll be surprised what you can do with just charcoal + a piece of chalk or black ink + a printing plate.

3. Don’t begin with a finished  picture in mind, this restricts you from the start. You'll miss happy accidents and unexpected outcomes + discoveries along the way that you can incorporate in your next piece.

4. Remember that nobody can make work like yours. You have a unique voice and way of seeng, make the most of it. Trying to make work like someone else never satisfies. It’s theirs and you've got your own. Processes and methods can be shared but expression is totally individual, uniquely yours!
